there is a drunk man
in tompkins square park
walking around screaming
Dawn! Dawn!
maybe Dawn was his lover
who died
of heart failure
or maybe Dawn was his sister
who was raped and killed
many many years ago
or maybe
Dawn was his last landlord
who evicted him
or maybe
he is tired of today
like i am
and he
is making an irate
attempt to beg
tomorrow to begin
for him
a little early

very nice

I like how you didn't try to make most of the poem too "artful" if you know what I mean...because it made the "twist" of the last few lines achingly beautiful. Way to go.

Well, this is an upgrade. God, some of your stuff is sloppy, you playing yourself, etc.

But then you drop this, a tightening, an upgrade. Very sharp, smart, and actually, uh, poetry.

In the WAY future (after your trying-to-outrun-a-train-carnage) this will be in your collected works, "The early Years."

Rock on.
